Writing a College Essay - Things to Avoid

Writing a College Essay - Things to AvoidWriting a college essay can be tough, particularly if you are not familiar with the rules and regulations of writing a composition. However, if you know what to write for a college essay, then it will be easier. In this article, I will outline some things that you should not write about.Forget about personal experiences! Unless you have proof that it is relevant, do not include personal experiences in your essay. Personal experiences are no more relevant than facts or opinions. It is better to keep them out of your essay altogether.Do not use flashbacks! While they are fine for brief pieces of writing, it is not okay to use them to embellish a story. Think of an event as if it happened yesterday and then describe it briefly. If your reader can still recall the details, then you will get a 'yes' vote.Do not use 'I remember' as a way to embellish on historical facts. If you remember events that took place within the past year, or you can recount in detail what happened, then you are free to do so. Just try to stay away from stories of the past, especially if it will sound like you are 'faking'not being completely honest.'Focus on facts. Concentrate on factual information instead of the opinions or feelings. If you have an opinion on something, just put it into words.Use what others have said. When you read something written by someone else, do not talk yourself up! Do not be afraid to use an argumentative piece, as long as it is not just repeated phrases or vague statements.Do not use citations unless you are specifically citing someone. There are many types of citations: both verifiable and otherwise. Make sure that you are citing sources in the right way.The most important thing when writing a college essay is being concise. The length of the piece depends on your expertise and your background in the subject matter. This article has listed a few things that you should avoid when writing a college essay.
